Why I’m Running

En español

Public education changed my life — and it continues to shape our community every day.

I’m running for re-election to the Spokane School Board because I believe in the promise of public schools: that every student, no matter their background or ability, deserves to feel safe, supported, and seen.

As a graduate of the Central Valley School District, I saw firsthand how public education opened doors — not just for me and my siblings, but for my father, who earned his GED and later an associate’s degree from SCC. That foundation led me to Eastern Washington University and a career in healthcare and advocacy.

My passion for education deepened as a parent, especially when my younger daughter — who is neurodiverse — encountered a system not fully prepared to meet her needs. That experience led me to special education advocacy and ultimately to serve on the school board.

Over the past five and a half years, I’ve worked hard to deliver real results: improvements to special education, stronger student connection through clubs and extracurriculars, new middle schools named to reflect our diverse community, and investments in educators, curriculum, and graduation success.

There’s more to do, and I’m ready to keep going.

I’m running for re-election to continue building a school system where every student feels safe, every family feels heard, and every educator feels supported. Strong public schools — grounded in belonging and inclusion — are the heart of a thriving community.

About Me

Spokane is home. My parents moved here in 1970, from Southern Idaho, expecting their second child and wanting a better life and a fresh start.

My Platform

I am running for school board because I want to champion equitable policies for all students and families.
